22 Jan
Summary
- Kuppai Thiruvizha waste collection drive covers 200 Greater Chennai Corporation wards.
- The initiative aims for zero waste to landfill by converting materials into resources.
- The three-day drive encourages responsible waste disposal practices.

A significant waste collection drive, named 'Kuppai Thiruvizha,' has been initiated across 200 wards within the Greater Chennai Corporation limits. This ambitious initiative commenced on Wednesday and is scheduled to continue through January 23, focusing on transforming waste into valuable resources.
The primary objective is to achieve 'zero waste to landfill' by intercepting waste before it reaches dumping yards. The drive encourages citizens to adopt responsible waste disposal methods. Unused materials, including paper, plastics, old electronics, and glass, were segregated at their source on the first day.
Health Inspectors are actively monitoring the collection and segregation activities across all 200 wards. The collected waste will be weighed and then processed for conversion into reusable materials or directed to designated disposal channels, marking a concerted effort towards sustainable waste management in Chennai.
