21 Oct
Summary
- Tamil Nadu to receive isolated very heavy rainfall until October 21.
- Heavy showers are forecast for parts of the state from October 22 to 25.
- Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 60 kmph are expected.
Tamil Nadu is bracing for a period of intense weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting significant rainfall.
From October 20 to October 21, isolated very heavy rainfall is expected across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The IMD bulletin indicates that heavy showers are likely to continue in isolated areas of the state from October 22 through October 25.
In addition to the heavy downpours, residents should be aware of the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Wind speeds may reach 40-50 kmph, with gusts potentially hitting 60 kmph in some locations. The IMD advises alertness to these changing conditions.
The current weather patterns are attributed to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the north Tamil Nadu coast, and a trough extending into the northwest Bay of Bengal. These systems are driving the expected rainfall activity in the region.
