Chandigarh's Air Clears: AQI Soars in 2025

Chandigarh's air quality saw a marked improvement in 2025, with monthly averages consistently better than in 2024 and 2023. For ten months of 2025, the AQI stayed within the 'satisfactory' to 'moderate' range, a notable shift from previous years where higher levels were more frequent.

Coordinated efforts across various government bodies were instrumental in this progress. The Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee implemented stringent guidelines for dust control, including mechanized sweeping, anti-smog guns, and water sprinkling, alongside strict enforcement of construction and demolition waste policies.

These initiatives, part of the City Air Action Plan under the National Clean Air Programme, aim for long-term goals such as increasing green cover and promoting electric vehicles, alongside immediate measures. Director Environment, Saurabh Kumar, highlighted the success of these combined strategies in enhancing air quality.
