Summary
- Cangshan Mountains survey identified 10 new plant communities.
- Over 4,600 higher plant species recorded in the region.
- Findings will guide future conservation efforts in the mountains.

A comprehensive three-year survey recently concluded in the Cangshan Mountains of Yunnan province, a region renowned for its exceptional biodiversity. Researchers have established the area's first detailed vegetation classification system, identifying 10 vegetation types and 131 distinct plant communities. Notably, ten of these communities were previously unrecorded.
The expedition, led by the Yunnan Academy of Forestry and Grassland, meticulously documented the mountain's ecosystems. It recorded 4,600 species of higher plants and 418 large fungi. Additionally, the survey identified 578 vertebrate and 787 invertebrate species, highlighting the ecological richness of the region.
These crucial findings will serve as a foundation for future conservation strategies, ecological restoration projects, and environmental education initiatives. The data aims to ensure the sustained health and thriving of the Cangshan Mountains' forests, rivers, and diverse wildlife.
