This growth has occurred alongside a notable policy shift. In April 2023, California implemented the Net Billing Tariff, commonly known as NEM 3.0. This new policy adjusts the financial incentives for rooftop solar by typically crediting exported electricity at wholesale prices, a change from the previous retail rate compensation. While this alters the economics for new solar installations, rooftop solar remains a strategic choice for homeowners aiming for long-term savings on their energy expenses.
