Hot Weather Halts Bristol Bin Collections
26 May
Summary
- Extreme heat affects bin lorry crushing mechanisms.
- Waste collections in Bristol face schedule changes.
- Residents asked to place bins out before 5 AM.

Waste collections in Bristol are being altered this week due to the current spell of hot weather. Extreme temperatures have begun affecting the operational capabilities of bin lorries. Specifically, the hot weather has impacted the vehicle mechanisms responsible for crushing plastic and card, thereby limiting the volume of waste that can be collected.
In response, Bristol Waste is implementing adjusted working hours for its crews, scheduling collections to commence at 5:00 AM BST. This measure aims to mitigate the risks associated with working during the hottest parts of the day. Residents in affected areas are being advised to place their bins and recycling containers out for collection before 5:00 AM. The company also stated that if plastic or card recycling has not been collected by 6:00 PM, residents should bring their containers back in and place them out for the next scheduled collection day.
