Millions of Pounds of Food Rotting; Violations Cited

Crews continue to address the aftermath of a fire at a Boyle Heights warehouse, where millions of pounds of rotting food remain. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued citations to Lineage for rodent and pest control violations at the cold-storage facility.

Inspectors found decaying waste, standing water, and flies on July 22. The company faces fines of up to $500 daily until violations are corrected, including proper disposal of food and sanitizing the property. This follows a previous notice on June 29 for mitigation efforts in nearby communities.

Separately, the South Coast Air Quality Management District ordered Lineage to address foul odors. Lineage submitted odor mitigation plans this week, detailing actions like adding odor neutralizers and installing sprayers. As of July 24, approximately 12.1 million pounds of waste have been removed, with a significant amount still needing transport.
