6 Jan
Summary
- Residents fed up with piles of waste including furniture and baths.
- Video shows one pile of rubbish nearly 6 feet deep.
- Council increased fly-tipping fines to £1,000.

Families in Bootle are expressing their frustration over significant piles of illegal dumping littering their streets. Videos circulating show an extensive amount of waste, including bedroom furniture, tyres, and even bathtubs, discarded in public areas. One particularly concerning video shared by Councillor Peter Harvey highlights a rubbish pile on St Johns Road that measures nearly six feet in height.
Mike Brennan, chairman of the Bootle Action Group, voiced the community's dismay, questioning why Bootle is being treated as a dumping ground for such waste. The Bootle Action Group is actively involved in addressing the issue through clean-up initiatives.
In an effort to combat this growing problem, Sefton Council has taken decisive action by raising the fines for fly-tipping offenses from £400 to £1,000. This represents the highest penalty for such an offense nationwide, signaling a stronger stance against illegal waste disposal.
