BMW Brilliance Automotive has expanded its environmental stewardship in Northeast China through two new wetland conservation initiatives in Liaoning province. These projects, announced recently, involve donations to Liaozhong Puhe National Wetland Park in Shenyang and ongoing support for the Liaohekou National Nature Reserve in Panjin, marking five years of dedication to this vital coastal ecosystem.
The carmaker's engagement is guided by its 'In China, for China, with China' philosophy, aligning economic growth with ecological preservation in Liaoning. These new efforts build upon the BMW Beautiful Homeland program, initiated in 2021, which has concentrated on protecting the globally significant biodiversity of the Liaohekou wetland.
At Liaozhong Puhe, BMW Brilliance is collaborating with the China Green Foundation on restoration and community engagement. This includes replanting native aquatic vegetation, developing environmental education programs, and fostering co-governance to embed conservation into local life.
Meanwhile, the Liaohekou National Nature Reserve will see continued focus on water resource management, the protection of species like red-crowned cranes and Saunders's gulls, and science-based environmental education. Since 2021, BMW Brilliance has invested over 15 million yuan ($2.17 million) in wetland protection across Liaohekou and the Yellow River Delta, impacting over 30 million people. This approach signifies a shift towards deeper participation in ecological governance, aligning with Liaoning's enhanced wetland protection framework.
