Summary
- A protected blackbuck fawn was rescued by forest officials.
- PETA India reported the illegal captivity to authorities.
- The rescued fawn is under departmental care for rehabilitation.

A rare juvenile blackbuck, protected under India's Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, was successfully rescued by the Nagaur Forest Division. The rescue operation was initiated Friday following a complaint from PETA India about the animal's illegal captivity. Forest officials reported that the fawn was secured safely and that one accused has been arrested and taken into judicial custody. The vehicle suspected of being used in the capture was also impounded.
The rescued blackbuck fawn is presently under the care and custody of the forest department. A thorough veterinary examination is scheduled to evaluate its health and determine the next steps for its rehabilitation. Authorities plan to release the fawn back into its natural habitat once it is deemed fit, adhering to the Wildlife (Protection) Act.
Investigations revealed a case was also registered against a pregnant woman, though she was not arrested. This action comes as tribal groups allegedly linked to poaching and wildlife trade, including supplying bush meat, are under scrutiny. Violations concerning Schedule I species carry severe penalties, including imprisonment of three to seven years and a minimum fine of Rs 25,000.
