Late Sunday night, a wild elephant in Bijnor district's Rehar police station area attacked a car and subsequently trampled several bighas of paddy crop in Tajpur Farm village. Farmer Pramod Kumar was returning home when the tusker emerged from the forest and attacked his vehicle near a mobile tower. He fortunately escaped unhurt and alerted the forest department.
A team from the forest department, along with villagers, managed to drive the elephant back into the jungle. However, the animal reappeared and destroyed standing paddy crops belonging to the same farmer. Residents have noted a rise in wildlife-related incidents due to the area's proximity to the forest, recalling a fatal elephant attack three months prior.
Farmers voiced their distress over crop destruction and personal safety concerns, calling for swift preventive measures. The range officer stated that forest patrolling has been intensified and advised villagers to remain vigilant, especially during early morning and evening hours.
