Bihar is preparing to inaugurate its second zoo in Gaya, following Patna's successful model. The proposed 110-acre facility at Kandi comes with an estimated cost of approximately Rs 200 crore. Environmental and forest department officials have submitted a detailed project report to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) and are aiming for project completion by 2028.
The CZA has requested clarifications on 15 points, including enclosure sizes and habitat designs, before granting approval. The department expects to provide responses by mid-September, potentially leading to a no-objection certificate within two months if the proposal adheres to norms.
The zoo will house over 30 species, including lions, tigers, and giraffes, across a large area dedicated to animal enclosures. Visitors will benefit from toughened-glass viewing barriers and digital information panels. Modern amenities like online ticketing, ample parking, battery-operated carts, and a nature play zone for children are planned.
This new facility is poised to enhance wildlife and nature tourism in Bodh Gaya, a site that already attracts many international and domestic visitors annually. It promises a contemporary zoo experience and will serve as a new attraction for the region.
