A 21-year-old B.Sc student from Biaora, Madhya Pradesh, has become a symbol of civic action through his persistent efforts to clean the Ajnar river. Known online as 'Bittu Tabahi', he has been dedicating himself to removing plastic bottles and garbage from the waterway since Republic Day of this year. His actions have drawn significant attention, leading to a personal meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at the CM's residence in Bhopal.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Yadav lauded Bittu's dedication, aligning his work with the state's 'Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan'. The CM pledged government support for Bittu's initiative. However, the young activist expressed distress that despite his considerable efforts, the river continues to be polluted by the same community he is trying to serve.
The local municipal corporation has since deployed machinery to assist with waste removal from streets. Nevertheless, the core issues of habitual littering and a lack of community responsibility remain challenges. Bittu's ongoing mission now faces the greater test of inspiring a lasting change in public behavior and waste management practices in Biaora.
