29 Nov, 2025
Summary
- A year-long project costing ₹1.2 crore will clean Bhalswa Lake.
- Contractor to handle daily maintenance and biological water treatment.
- Project runs parallel to clearing the adjoining Bhalswa landfill.

Bhalswa Lake is set to undergo a comprehensive year-long cleaning and bioremediation project, with an estimated cost of ₹1.2 crore. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will engage a contractor responsible for daily upkeep and advanced water treatment to improve its quality and reduce odor and algal blooms. This initiative is designed to bring key water parameters within specified limits.
The appointed agency will undertake tasks such as removing floating plants and accumulated waste, including plastic and religious offerings, using specialized boats. Regular laboratory tests will monitor water quality improvements throughout the project's duration. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to clear the decades-old Bhalswa landfill, adopted by Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
This lake restoration project will proceed alongside the landfill's legacy waste clearance. DDA engineers will oversee the contractor's continuous dosing, cleaning, and testing activities. The dual approach aims to enhance the lake's environment while the large-scale landfill remediation continues, addressing long-standing waste management challenges in the area.
