Solar Farm Near Beverley Sparks Community Debate
12 Jun
Summary
- A 500 MW solar farm is planned near Beverley, East Yorkshire.
- Community events are scheduled in June for public input.
- The government will decide on the project's approval.

Plans for a substantial 500 MW solar farm, dubbed the Clean Air Solar Farm, are being presented to the community near Beverley, East Yorkshire. This project, a joint venture by PS Renewables and Ørsted Onshore, is designed to generate enough electricity for around 160,000 homes.
To gather feedback, several public information days are being held throughout June, including events at Lockington Village Hall on June 22, Beverley Memorial Hall on June 23, and Walkington Village Hall on June 24. An online webinar is also scheduled for June 29.
Project team representative Randall Linfoot emphasized the importance of community engagement, encouraging residents to attend and ask questions. He noted that these sessions precede a statutory consultation phase planned for the autumn.
However, opposition exists, with groups like East Riding Against Solar Expansion expressing strong concerns. Spokesperson George McManus fears the development will drastically alter Beverley's landscape and impact future generations. As the project's scale necessitates government approval, a decision is anticipated, with electricity generation potentially starting by 2033 if approved.
