Bengaluru Launches First Circular Textile Lab

Bengaluru's first Circular Textile Lab was inaugurated in Koramangala on Monday at the Kasa Rasa Kendra, a ward-level solid waste management centre. This pioneering facility aims to divert textile waste from landfills and create jobs for local tailors and women.

The lab will process textile waste collected from garment units and tailors, repurposing it into new garments and eco-friendly bags. A new thrift store is also part of the initiative, selling products made from recycled textiles. The revenue generated will contribute to the welfare of workers and the project's management.

Additionally, an SWM Learning Centre was launched at the same location. This center offers practical training on waste segregation, composting, and the 7 R principles of sustainability. Unlike traditional training setups, it is situated within an active waste-processing unit, providing hands-on learning experiences for the public regarding waste management.

The project, previously implemented in Kolar Gold Fields, will initially operate in Koramangala and plans to expand to other wards across Bengaluru. The facility is equipped with an effluent and sewage treatment system to manage waste from textile processing.
