- New QR code system allows residents to track waste collection personnel.
Bengaluru North City Corporation (BNCC) is actively seeking citizen assistance to pinpoint issues within its solid waste management system, with a particular focus on unauthorized collection of bulk waste by domestic vehicles. This improper disposal method leads to overloaded vehicles, necessitating extra trips and causing disruptions in regular waste collection schedules from designated households.
Citizens are empowered to report such infringements. Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar stated that individuals can report these violations on a special Tuesday phone-in program by contacting 9480685705 or 080-22975936/23636671. The BNCC has identified 1,299 bulk waste generators and is encouraging resident welfare associations to monitor waste management operations.
To enhance transparency and accountability, the corporation has implemented a system allowing residents to scan division-wise QR codes on social media handles. This provides contact details for auto-tipper drivers and supervisors, enabling residents to track their block's waste collection and assigned personnel. Additionally, four 'Prahari' vehicles equipped with dashcams are deployed to monitor and deter illegal dumping.
