Bengaluru East Corp Tackles Road Woes

Bengaluru East Corporation Commissioner D S Ramesh has mandated the immediate repair of potholes along Gunjur Road and at Varthur Junction. This directive follows persistent complaints from residents, particularly concerning road conditions on the Gunjur stretch, which experiences significant school bus traffic. Ramesh, accompanied by traffic police, instructed engineers to prioritize the most damaged areas and ensure culvert covers are secured before the monsoon season.

At Varthur Junction, the commissioner identified a significant waste dump, labeling it a black spot and demanding its removal by evening, with a stern warning of action against repeat offenders. Traffic police have been tasked with proposing traffic diversions to facilitate repair work and considering restrictions on heavy vehicle movement during peak hours to mitigate congestion. Engineers are expected to collaborate with contractors to expedite the completion of these repairs, aiming for completion within days rather than weeks.

Further inspections revealed issues such as protruding BWSSB chambers on a recently constructed road in Gunjur Palya, which have been ordered to be leveled. Plans for a footpath and improved access points to prevent reckless driving are also under consideration. Separately, the commissioner reviewed the rehabilitation of families residing in the buffer zone near Sheelavanta Lake, directing officials to prepare a layout and construct necessary infrastructure, with title deeds to be issued post-completion as per High Court orders. The KRDCL's failure to maintain the road, despite its ongoing elevated corridor project, led to the East Corporation stepping in after public outcry on social media.
