- The saplings will be planted within two months in Lalbagh and Cubbon Park.

Bengaluru's iconic Lalbagh and Cubbon Park are preparing to welcome a significant botanical expansion, with over 617 plant saplings across 255 varieties scheduled for introduction within the next two months. This initiative represents the largest introduction of new species in recent years, aiming to enhance the diversity within these vital green spaces.
A unique aspect of this project is the inclusion of endangered medicinal plants nurtured by the Soliga tribe from the B.R. Hills. These plants, some of which are listed as endangered by the IUCN, underscore the department's commitment to conservation and the integration of traditional knowledge.
The Horticulture Department plans to strategically plant these saplings during Bengaluru's monsoon season to optimize their growth and adaptation. Beyond the Soliga tribe's medicinal varieties, the parks will also feature flower saplings sourced from various institutions across India, further enriching their botanical collections.
