The Green Saviours Association, an NGO based in Belagavi, has introduced an innovative initiative called Srushti Green Homes. This program is designed to foster community involvement in afforestation efforts across the region.
The core of the initiative encourages households to actively participate in increasing green cover by planting trees within their own premises. As part of this effort, families are offered three complimentary saplings. These include a mix of fruiting, flowering, and medicinal plants, selected from over 30 varieties suitable for the local Belagavi climate and residential spaces.
The Green Saviours team offers comprehensive support, guiding families through species selection, the planting process, and essential maintenance practices. This dedicated assistance aims to maximize the survival rate of the saplings. The initiative was officially launched at the residence of Irappa Belavi in Jadhav Nagar, with Mr. Belavi becoming the first recipient.
Founded by environment protection activist Sameer Majli, Green Saviours has a long-standing commitment to afforestation, having organized drives on 535 Sundays to date. Their efforts extend beyond planting, encompassing awareness campaigns on the importance of greener neighborhoods, biodiversity conservation, and promoting organic farming among local farmers.
