A black bear, known locally as 'Yogi', was captured on security footage attempting to open the front door of Olga's Yodel Cinnamon Rolls in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, as staff were working inside. Owner Shaun Bromley noted that while the bear is a frequent visitor to the area, this was the first time it had approached the storefront so directly, possibly drawn by the scent of fresh cinnamon rolls.
Bromley, who recognized the bear by its 'mangy' appearance, stated that bear sightings are common in the Tennessee mountains and are part of the area's appeal. Despite the unusual encounter, no plans were made to involve wildlife officials. He stressed the importance of treating bears with caution, as they are wild animals. Bromley advised against feeding them to prevent them from becoming domesticated and potentially attempting to enter businesses.
The bakery owner urged the public to remember that bears, while appearing cute, are wild and unpredictable. He expressed a lighthearted concern about bears learning to use door handles and entering establishments to order treats. This encounter highlights the unique coexistence between humans and wildlife in the region.
