16 Sep
Summary
- A black bear entered a teen's bedroom through a window.
- A camper sustained a puncture wound from a bear bite.
- Colorado has seen 10 unprecedented bear attacks this year.
In Colorado, recent bear encounters have escalated, with a black bear entering a teenage girl's bedroom through a window and causing scratches. This incident occurred shortly after another camper in the state was treated for a puncture wound, believed to be from a black bear bite.
Wildlife officials are reporting an unprecedented number of bear attacks on humans in Colorado this year, with 10 such incidents recorded. This surge is linked to a statewide drought, which has depleted natural food sources like berries and fruits.
As bears prepare for hibernation and require substantial calories, they are increasingly venturing into human residences in search of food. This behavior has led to a nationwide increase in bear-human conflicts, including a fatal mauling in New Mexico.
