King County Reopens Beaches After Spill
22 Jun
Summary
- Beaches near Constellation Park closed due to sewage spill.
- Wastewater spill released 13,000 gallons into Puget Sound.
- Cormorant Cove remains under advisory until June 24.

Beaches near Constellation Park and Charles Richey Sr. Viewpoint have reopened after a sewage spill on June 17 prompted their closure. The Wastewater Treatment Division of King County's Department of Natural Resources and Parks confirmed Sunday that water samples analyzed from nine locations indicated safety for public access. Closure signs were removed Saturday afternoon.
However, Cormorant Cove, also affected by the spill, continues to be under an advisory. This means beach access is permitted, but visitors and their pets are strongly cautioned against entering the water due to residual contamination. This advisory is expected to remain in effect until 11:30 am on Wednesday, June 24.
The incident involved an overflow at a pump station, resulting in approximately 13,000 gallons of contaminated wastewater being released into the Puget Sound. The division's report detailed the cause of the leak and the subsequent water quality testing.
