An extraordinary event unfolded Friday evening in Bedford, Nova Scotia, as a magnificent basking shark was sighted in the Bedford Basin. Crowds gathered near the Bedford Basin Yacht Club, with many individuals, including Olivia Falkenham who was on her way to work, capturing videos of the remarkable marine visitor. Falkenham described the shark as 'huge' and expressed her awe at witnessing such a large creature so close.
Gary Cowan and his wife also witnessed the spectacle, having driven down after hearing about the shark. Cowan, an avid angler, shared his disbelief, stating he had never seen anything like it despite spending significant time on the water. The Marine Animal Response Society (MARS) monitored the situation, assuring the public that the basking shark was swimming freely and appeared to be in good health. As of Saturday, there were no further reports of the animal in the harbour.
