11 Apr
Summary
- Bald eagle rescued Thanksgiving after entanglement in fence.
- Custom shoe splint was made to support eagle's injured foot.
- Eagle was released back into the wild on State Game Lands 151.

A bald eagle has successfully returned to flight after a months-long recovery. The bird was rescued on Thanksgiving Day, having become entangled in a fence in Slippery Rock. Initial examinations revealed significant damage to the tendons and ligaments in one of its feet, alongside other minor injuries sustained during its struggle to break free.
Rehabilitation efforts at Tamarack Wildlife Center included the creation of a specialized shoe splint to support the injured foot. Concerns focused on the healing of its hallux, the crucial rear-facing toe essential for perching and grasping prey. Following dedicated physical therapy and care for its wounds, the eagle progressed to a large flight building to rebuild its strength and endurance.
The wildlife center, along with the individuals involved in the initial rescue, gathered recently to witness the eagle's release. This occurred on State Game Lands 151. Video shared by the center captured the moment the eagle emerged from its carrier, paused briefly, and then launched powerfully into the air, soaring over the trees and disappearing from view.
