The first-ever Keyi Panyor bird counting exercise successfully identified 38 distinct bird species within two hours in Joram Putung, Arunachal Pradesh. This significant event was a collaborative effort by the Keyi Panyor Tourism Society, the Arunachal Pradesh Birding Club, Bird Count India, and the Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF).
The initiative's core objectives are to foster wildlife conservation, cultivate ecological awareness, and assess the viability of birdwatching as a sustainable ecotourism model for the Keyi Panyor district. A diverse group, including students, forest officials, and local residents, actively participated in the survey.
Following the count, an educational session on avian diversity and bird-counting techniques was conducted at Joram Govt Secondary School, featuring NCF resource person Mittal Gala. Prominent species observed included the Mountain Hawk-Eagle and Fire-breasted Flowerpecker. Leaders proposed establishing an annual Bird and Butterfly Festival and urged residents to protect bird habitats.
