Drones to Seed 2.5 Crore Saplings Across Andhra

The forest department is set to launch an ambitious greening drive across Andhra Pradesh by the end of the month, aiming to significantly boost the state's forest cover. This initiative will involve the widespread dispersal of 2.5 crore seed balls, utilizing drone technology for efficient distribution.
Approximately 50 lakh seed balls are being prepared for deployment in north Andhra, with a dedicated six lakh seed balls targeted for Visakhapatnam city. These innovative seed balls are composed of 70% cow dung and 30% clay, with three seeds embedded in each, then dried for dispersal.
In addition to the seed ball drops, the department is actively engaged in manual planting of saplings. This is already in progress in the Sileru, Chintapalli, and Paderu areas of ASR district, following recent rainfall. Over 1.5 crore additional plants of various species are ready for distribution in urban and rural areas.
