AP Cracks Down on Diwali Pollution
6 Nov
Summary
- Banned firecrackers are prohibited for sale and use.
- Only CSIR-NEERI approved green crackers allowed.
- Strict noise limits enforced for day and night.

The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has initiated stringent measures to mitigate air and noise pollution across the state, with a particular focus on Deepavali celebrations. District administrations and various authorities have been mandated to enforce environmental regulations and closely monitor pollution indicators.
Joint inspection teams are being formed to prevent the sale, transportation, and use of prohibited firecrackers. The APPCB emphasized that only green crackers, certified by CSIR-NEERI and featuring unique QR codes, will be allowed in areas with moderate air quality or better, subject to court directives. Conventional crackers containing banned chemicals remain prohibited.
Specific noise limits are established for different zones, with stricter regulations for silence zones and during nighttime hours. Firecrackers are also banned within 300 meters of sensitive locations like hospitals and educational institutions. Non-compliance with loudspeaker and diesel generator regulations will incur substantial environmental compensation fines.
