Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has initiated a push towards achieving net-zero pollution by demanding a clear and actionable policy for the disposal of all plastic waste. During a review with the Pollution Control Board and senior officials, he stressed the importance of scientific assessment and firm enforcement to curb pollution across various categories.
Significant focus was placed on plastic and biomedical waste management. Urban and rural areas are to implement measures reducing single-use plastics, integrating waste management into a circular economy. For the state's 15,526 healthcare facilities, strict compliance with bio-waste disposal within 48 hours, monitored by CCTV, is mandated.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister called for advanced air quality monitoring integrated with the AWARE 2.0 platform and streamlined environmental clearances aligned with business speed guidelines. Action is also being expedited for sewage treatment plants and curbing mining pollution, with a directive to explore biodegradable alternatives for agricultural micro-irrigation plastic sheets.
