Environmentalist Rajendra Singh has called for urgent measures to protect Anakapalli district's fragile ecosystems and cultural heritage.
During a recent visit on World Environment Day, Singh, accompanied by other activists, assessed environmental concerns across several locations. He emphasized the critical need to conserve the wetland ecosystem surrounding Kondakarla Ava, one of the state's largest freshwater lakes.
The team also inspected mining activity at Panchadharla hill, expressing worry over deforestation and its potential ecological repercussions, including effects on local rainfall patterns.
Concerns extended to heritage sites like the Uma Dharma Lingeshwara Swamy temple and Bojjanna Konda, where mining activities and pollution threaten historical structures and water sources. Aava Khandam, a vital groundwater recharge zone, is also facing encroachment.
Singh advocated for development that respects environmental limits, urging authorities to implement safeguards for the region's ecological and cultural legacy, acknowledging farmers' concerns about remunerative prices.
