Ambazari Lake Suffocates Under Sewage

Ambazari Lake is facing a severe environmental crisis as untreated sewage from the Wadi Municipal Council limits flows directly into its waters. This pollution, coupled with a rapid spread of water hyacinth, is suffocating the lake. The invasive plants block sunlight, reducing dissolved oxygen levels and endangering fish and other aquatic organisms. The infestation also contributes to foul odors and increases mosquito breeding, impacting nearby residents and the overall ecological balance.

In response to the escalating pollution, officials have initiated steps for the lake's treatment and scientific reuse. A recent inspection, attended by MLC Parinay Fuke and collector Vipin Itankar, emphasized the need for immediate, tangible actions beyond discussions. Fuke directed officials to implement systems more effectively and create a time-bound action plan for removing water hyacinth using mechanical and biological methods. The rejuvenation of Ambazari Lake is considered crucial for Nagpur's water management, biodiversity, and environmental health.
