The Amangarh Tiger Reserve, located in Bijnor, has commenced its fifth eco-tourism season, signaling a potential resurgence for wildlife tourism in Uttar Pradesh. The inauguration on Sunday evening was led by Moradabad divisional commissioner Sangeeta Singh.
This reserve plays a critical role as a wildlife corridor within the Terai landscape. It facilitates the unimpeded movement of tigers, Asian elephants, and other wildlife between Amangarh and the adjacent Corbett Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand.
Boasting a rich biodiversity across its 8,000 hectares, the reserve is home to various species including tigers, elephants, leopards, and numerous birds. The 32-km jungle safari, which started at Kehripur, is expected to draw both domestic and international visitors.
The safari operations, which previously began on November 15, 2022, aim to enhance local economies by creating new livelihood prospects. Several forest and police officials were present at the inauguration ceremony.
