Albania's Pristine Island Sparks Mass Protests

Albania's Sazan Island, renowned for its natural beauty, has become the focal point of massive anti-government protests. Plans for a large-scale luxury real estate development by Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner on this protected island have angered many.

What began as environmental concerns has escalated into a 'flamingo revolution,' with tens of thousands protesting in the capital. Activists are now demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and a government overhaul.

Sazan Island, a significant ecological area, is home to diverse flora and fauna, including the endangered Mediterranean Monk Seal. Its historical military significance also adds to its complex identity.

The protests extend to the Zvernec Peninsula, another ecologically sensitive area targeted for development. Activists emphasize the importance of preserving these last untouched Mediterranean coastal habitats.
