Summary
- Akka Thangai lake restoration supports over 500 farmers.
- Rejuvenated lake will recharge 85 borewells and boost irrigation.
- This is the first restoration of the lake in nearly 50 years.
The Akka Thangai lake, an irrigation tank in Anchetty, Krishnagiri, has been restored by Titan Company Limited, marking its first rejuvenation in nearly five decades. The project, conducted through Titan's sustainability initiative Pragati, aims to bolster water security for over 500 farmers and their 511 acres of farmland.
The restoration involved extensive work including desilting, sluice structure renovation, and bund strengthening, increasing the lake's storage capacity significantly. This revitalization is expected to recharge around 85 borewells, enabling additional crop cycles and improving local ecosystems.
Titan's third major water body restoration project underscores a commitment to community resilience and sustainable livelihoods. A farmers' association has been established to ensure the lake's long-term maintenance and effective water resource management, fostering collaboration between local communities and authorities.
