Abandoned Python Discovered at Welsh Beauty Spot, Sparking Concern

On October 14th, 2025, a dog walker in Bargoed Common, Wales, made a startling discovery - an enormous snake, believed to be a type of python, had been abandoned at the popular beauty spot. The incident occurred when the walker, 31-year-old Charlotte Smith, was alerted to the reptile by her mixed-breed dog, Ella, who had found the snake and tried to roll on it.

Shocked by the sight, Charlotte immediately grabbed her dog and screamed. Her mother, who is terrified of snakes, also came to the scene and quickly fled. Charlotte estimated the snake to be around a meter and a half long, and while she is not afraid of snakes, she was concerned about the potential presence of adders in the area.

After the initial scare, Charlotte shared images of the snake online in an effort to locate any potential owners who may have lost their pet. However, it appears the snake had likely been dumped in the area, as the location was around three miles from the nearest home, and the weather conditions made it unlikely the snake could have made its way there on its own.

Authorities, including the Gwent Police and the RSPCA, were notified of the discovery. While nothing could be done to save the snake, which was later confirmed to be dead, Charlotte hopes that the incident will raise awareness about the importance of respecting all animals, including reptiles.

"Anything that gets awareness out about this is important because if a puppy had been dumped, people would care more," Charlotte said. "But because it's a snake, people think: 'Eww, I don't care.'"
