The 17th edition of the Kaiga Bird Marathon is scheduled to take place on February 6 and 7, 2027, in and around Kaiga. This event, organized by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), Kaiga unit, provides a unique opportunity for birdwatchers to document the rich avian diversity of the Western Ghats.
Previous editions of the marathon have recorded approximately 315 bird species in the region, with organizers anticipating the discovery of even more during the upcoming survey. This event stands out as one of India's few continuously run, corporate-sponsored bird surveys, attracting scientists from esteemed institutions like the Bombay Natural History Society and the Wildlife Institute of India.
Participants for the two-day event will be selected from across the country, with the remaining spots filled by NPCIL personnel and students from the College of Forestry. To facilitate the survey, participants will be organized into nine distinct teams, each assigned to explore different locations and document various bird species.
