Josh Corrigan, a recent graduate of Wylie High School, concluded his high school career with an impressive performance at the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Virginia, where he reached the quarterfinals. This achievement marked his third appearance at the national competition.
Corrigan's journey in speech and debate began in junior high with UIL speaking events, leading him to Congressional Debate as a freshman. He quickly found success, qualifying for state that same year. Throughout high school, he focused primarily on Congressional Debate and Extemporaneous Speaking.
Before competing at the national level this year, Corrigan also secured second place in Extemporaneous Speaking at the state UIL competition. He plans to continue his speech and debate endeavors at Abilene Christian University, where he will study government as a pre-law student.
Corrigan emphasized the importance of advocacy through communication, seeing it as a way to speak for those who cannot. He was among four Wylie High School students who competed nationally, alongside students from Abilene High, Jim Ned High, and Snyder High.
