- Priority for maths camps given to rural and disadvantaged students.

Victoria's state government has announced a significant $75 million investment in free extension and enrichment programs for school students. This funding, spread over three academic years, aims to provide approximately 75,000 places for students from preparatory grades to Year 12. These initiatives will focus on hands-on learning experiences in diverse subjects such as coding, botany, music, and dance.
In addition to these offerings, high-achieving Year 9 and 10 students will gain access to advanced learning through a new five-day maths camp. Special consideration for these camps will be given to students from rural, regional, and disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring broader accessibility. The Victorian High-Ability Program will also provide 48,000 places for students in Years 5 to 8 in a 10-week online English and maths enrichment curriculum.
The programs connect students with universities and non-profit organizations, offering activities like masterclasses, design challenges, and excursions. This initiative builds upon the Student Excellence Program, introduced in 2020, which has already seen over 315,000 students participate in opportunities to enhance their abilities. The Education Minister highlighted that this investment ensures bright students across the state receive deserved opportunities to extend their learning, regardless of their background.
