A teacher from a government school in Varanasi has received the prestigious Vidya Stree award from IIT Madras for her groundbreaking work in educational technology. Tuba Asim developed an innovative 'experiment through simulation' concept, making it easier for children to grasp complex topics by allowing them to conduct virtual experiments and explore 'why' and 'how'.
This initiative is a significant step towards the digitalization of education, a key focus of the Yogi government in line with the National Education Policy 2020. Asim has also been instrumental in training other teachers and students in leveraging modern ICT tools and simulation portals like OLab and PhET.
The Vidya Shakti project, a free digital education initiative started in 2023 by Chennai's OpenMentor Trust in partnership with the government and IIT Madras, is actively supporting this transformation. It aims to strengthen foundational education for students in classes 6 to 8, thereby reducing dropout rates and increasing the gross enrollment ratio. Over 50,000 students across 353 schools in Varanasi are currently benefiting from this program.
