UPSC Cracks Down: Face ID Now Mandatory for Exams
11 Jan
Summary
- Face authentication will be mandatory for all candidates at UPSC exam venues.
- This move aims to enhance the security and credibility of recruitment exams.
- Facial recognition technology reduces verification time to seconds per person.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will now require all candidates to undergo mandatory face authentication during its recruitment examinations. This decision aims to significantly strengthen the integrity and security of the examination process nationwide. Officials confirmed this updated procedure will be implemented at all examination venues.
The UPSC, responsible for selecting candidates for prestigious government services like the Civil Services, had previously tested an AI-based facial authentication system. This pilot project, conducted during the NDA and NA II Examination 2025 and CDS II Examination 2025 on September 14 last year, proved successful.
This technology, implemented in select centres, digitally matches candidates' live facial images with their application photographs. UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar noted that the system not only adds a robust layer of security against impersonation but also enhances operational efficiency, decreasing verification time per candidate to a mere 8-10 seconds.
