Beds Scam: Probe Ordered into KGBV Procurement
9 May
Summary
- Court orders inquiry into irregular procurement of bunker beds for KGBVs.
- Allegations of inflated prices for beds, exceeding ₹33,000 per unit.
- Former MLA alleged contracts were revived without fresh tenders.

A recent directive from the Telangana High Court mandates a thorough investigation into procurement irregularities concerning bunker beds for Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) statewide. Justice Nagesh Bheemapaka ordered the Telangana School Education department to conduct this inquiry, addressing a petition filed by former MLA Peddi Sudershan Reddy.
The petitioner alleged that contracts for 45,360 bunker beds were awarded improperly. He claimed original contracts lapsed and were later revived via supplementary agreements, bypassing fresh tenders. Furthermore, he highlighted a significant price increase, with beds allegedly supplied at over ₹33,000 per unit compared to a previous procurement of approximately ₹15,300 per unit, suggesting a substantial loss to public funds.
The Vigilance Commission confirmed forwarding the complaint to the School Education department for necessary action. State authorities and contractors, however, refuted these claims, asserting the tender process was transparent and any delays were due to administrative approvals.
