A local high school junior is actively promoting literacy among young students. Khloe Allain, a junior studying early childhood education, recently visited the Therapeutic Learning Center in Dartmouth as part of the Rie's Readers program. This initiative was established in memory of Marie Feliciano, a lifelong advocate for reading who inspired her family.
The Rie's Readers program, a part of the nonprofit Flurries Unified All Stars Inc., donates curated book bundles to classrooms. The selections for the 2025-26 school year emphasize inclusion, friendship, and emotional well-being, aligning with the SOMA Unified Young Readers List. This visit marked the program's seventh school engagement this academic year.
During the visit, Allain and her uncle, program co-founder James Feliciano, led a reading session for a K-2 classroom. Students chose to hear Mo Willems' "Can I Play, Too?" The Southeastern Massachusetts Educational Collaborative expressed gratitude for the donations, noting their immense value to students with special needs.
Flurries Unified All Stars Inc. supports the special needs community through its cheerleading, athletics, and reading programs. The collaborative, founded in 1975, provides extensive services to students and adults with special needs across multiple school systems.
