Teachers Get Grief Training for Students
21 Jul
Summary
- Charity to train school staff on supporting grieving children.
- Up to 78% of children experience loss by age 16.
- Bereavement education becomes mandatory in schools soon.

Compton Care, a palliative and bereavement support charity, is launching a free training program for teachers and school staff. These sessions will help educators understand the impact of grief and loss on children at various developmental stages. This is particularly crucial as up to 78% of children by age 16 have experienced the death of a loved one, which can profoundly affect their emotional health and academic progress.
The forthcoming training is timely, as updated government guidance will make bereavement education a mandatory part of relationships, sex, and health education (RSHE) in schools starting September. The program aims to enable teachers to foster emotionally safe learning environments and effectively respond to both bereavement and other forms of loss children may encounter.
