31 Jul
Summary
- New skilled trades center construction is on track for a December completion.
- Campus entrance and sidewalk improvements are ahead of schedule.
- Phase two of the college's safety project is progressing well.

Southwestern Community College is advancing on several key campus projects. The new skilled trades center, a $6 million, 15,040-square-feet facility, is slated for completion in December. This center will house specialized labs for carpentry, electrical technology, and emergency services, alongside classrooms and a student lounge. A slight schedule adjustment of ten days for precast wall delivery is not expected to impact the final completion date.
Improvements to the main campus entrance and sidewalks are progressing rapidly, with some elements ahead of schedule. This phase includes adding boulevard and turn lanes, with landscaping design underway for fall seeding. This is part of a multi-year effort to enhance the campus environment.
The college is also making strides with phase two of its safety project. This initiative involves installing security cameras and access controls at various campus locations, including Tech Center I, Tech Center II, the Administration Center, and the performing arts center.
In other news, Southwestern Community College has renewed its contract with Assessment Technologies Institute for its nursing program, significantly reducing student textbook costs. The employment of two new assistant coaches, Tanner Olmstead for baseball and Isabelle Gaul for dance, has been approved. Furthermore, dual credit enrollment remains strong, with 47.5% of SWCC's student population comprising high school students.
