In Ahmedabad, a Class 8 student sustained a severe injury to his right eye when another student struck him with a compass during an argument. The incident occurred on Monday, April 20, following a Social Science exam. The injured student, who was attempting to break up a scuffle between two other classmates, suffered a corneal tear, a globe rupture, requiring surgery.
He underwent a corneal repair surgery at the M&J Institute of Ophthalmology and was discharged on April 21. Doctors will assess his vision after a week. An FIR has been filed at the Narol police station based on a complaint by the victim's father. The police are preparing a report for the Juvenile Justice Board.
School authorities stated that an inquiry is being conducted. Counselling sessions are scheduled for students at the beginning of the new academic session in June 2026. The upper primary school involved has approximately 1,000 students.
