Apollo Career Center's Building and Renovations seniors have completed a significant project, designing and constructing a mini-pavilion for the Lima Rotary Club at Safety City. This initiative allowed students to exercise their design imagination, drawing inspiration from local landmarks. The project was realized through a $2,500 grant from Rotary District 6600 and $4,500 raised by the Lima club.
Under the guidance of instructor Will Hedges, the 10-student senior class dedicated approximately a month to designing the pavilion. Construction primarily took place over seven weeks in the spring, with students braving adverse weather, including freezing rain, to ensure its completion. Hedges lauded their perseverance and problem-solving abilities.
The successful completion of the pavilion was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Safety City. Instructor Hedges emphasized that beyond carpentry skills, the project instilled valuable problem-solving capabilities in his students, preparing them for future endeavors in any field.
