Schools Across India Observe Valmiki Jayanti Holiday

As of October 8, 2025, schools in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh were closed the previous day, October 7th, to observe Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, a public holiday honoring the sage who composed the Ramayana. Additionally, schools in Jammu and Kashmir were also shut down on October 7th due to heavy rainfall in the region.

Elsewhere, the southern state of Tamil Nadu issued safety advisories to its residents amid ongoing monsoon conditions. While students in these affected areas were unable to attend classes, their counterparts in several other regions were able to enjoy an extended midweek break.

The closures and weather-related disruptions highlight the diverse challenges faced by the education system across India, as authorities work to balance academic schedules with important cultural observances and unpredictable environmental factors.
