School Staff Strike Over Pay Cuts
25 Mar
Summary
- Support staff strike action at four primary schools over pay and job loss fears.
- Proposed changes could result in staff losing 20% of their income.
- Trust cites funding cuts as reason for proposed staffing changes.

Support workers across four primary schools have initiated strike action in protest against proposed changes to pay and potential job losses. The affected schools include St Mary's Catholic Voluntary Academy in Brigg, St Bernadette's Catholic Primary in Scunthorpe, St Hugh's Catholic Primary in Lincoln, and Our Lady of Good Counsel Primary in Sleaford.
UNISON, the trade union representing the staff, has indicated that the proposals from the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Multi-Academy Trust could lead to a substantial reduction in income for some employees, approximately 20% of their annual earnings. Concerns have also been raised about the possibility of redundancies and increased workloads for remaining staff, impacting pupil support.
A spokesperson for the trust acknowledged the unsettling nature of the situation for staff and pledged support throughout the consultation process. They explained that funding cuts are creating significant pressures, necessitating proposals to reshape staffing arrangements to ensure educational continuity.
Teaching assistants, administrators, and chaplaincy teams were among the personnel participating in the walkouts. The strike action is scheduled to continue on Wednesday.
