- Community members contributed books and services.
- The shop now serves as a reading haven for all.

In Kolapakkam, Chengalpet, a fair price shop has been reimagined as a community center by shopkeeper Velu Chinnasamy. The transformation began with cleaning the premises and adding basic comforts such as a roof, fans, and drinking water. A significant addition is the establishment of the Thiruvalluvar Noolagam community library, complete with a reading corner.
The initiative received overwhelming support from the local community. A painter, Kumaresan, donated books and painted murals, expressing a desire to help students. Velu's colleagues provided library construction materials, while a social worker sponsored furniture. The local panchayat president, Vinitha Srinivasan, contributed to the flooring and seating.
Residents have actively contributed both new and used books, creating a diverse collection that includes textbooks, literature, and self-development titles. The library aims to make study materials accessible and affordable. Schoolchildren, senior citizens, and women are now frequent visitors, benefiting from the enhanced reading resources.
