Queensland Universities Soar in Global Rankings

Several Queensland universities have been recognized as highly improved institutions in the QS World University Rankings 2027. Bond University, a private institution, saw the most dramatic ascent, climbing 73 positions globally. This improvement was attributed to factors like a high teacher-to-student ratio and a strong community environment. CQ University and Griffith University also experienced notable jumps in their rankings.

Despite these gains, the global rankings serve as a warning for Australia's broader tertiary sector. QS highlighted that Australian universities generally underperform in teaching capacity and graduate outcomes when compared to international peers. The University of New South Wales has overtaken the University of Melbourne as the top-ranked university in Australia, while the University of Queensland remains the highest-ranked institution within Queensland. Concerns were also raised about the accessibility and cost of student visas affecting the international student market.
